Talented two-year-old Lordhelpmerun produced an impressive performance to run third in the $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate at Ascot on Saturday for local trainer Steve Wolfe.

Wolfe was attempting to win the two-year-old feature for the first time after two second placings in the race previously but it was another minor placing after Valour Road led all the way to win the race for trainer Simon Miller.

Miller also prepared Lady Cosmology, who finished second, while Lordhelpmerun ran the second fastest final 600m of the race to come from fifth on the turn and grabbed third.

The son of Playing God settled beautifully for jockey Shaun McGruddy in running and was doing his best work late to finish 1 ¼ lengths off Valour Road in the end. “The horse went super really,” Wolfe said. “It was a tick outside the fastest final 600m and he did everything right after getting back and running on which was hard to do.

“It’s so hard to find a good horse like him and the phone has been ringing hot with offers but at this stage we’ll go to the Sires’ all things being equal.”

Lordhelpmerun is likely to contest the Group 3 $200,000 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on April 28 before heading for a spell.

Wolfe scored his 25th winner of the Great Southern season last Thursday when progressive stayer Gauged proved too strong in the Nexus Life Handicap (1907m).

With Peter Knuckey in the saddle, the five-year-old grey burst clear late to win his fourth race this season.

Gauged is likely to have one more start in metropolitan grade before a spell and Wolfe said there was only a slim chance he would go to this Saturday’s Narrogin Cup instead.
