Local Tim Stone wins heat one of the Harry Capararo Memorial Prelude to start the new year
Local trainer-driver Tim Stone claimed heat one of the Harry Capararo Memorial Prelude with Rokorico, which was part of a winning double at Harold Reid Paceway on Saturday night.
The Albany Harness Racing Club held its second meeting of the season and Stone walked away with the spoils in the feature race on the night.
Seven-year-old Rokorico won his first race in Albany last start after not racing for close to four years and then backed it up with a smart victory in the Harry Capararo Prelude Pace (1832m).
Rokorico beat Grapellies Boy by 2.5m, while hot favourite Nigel Ernest was third.
Stone made it a winning double in race five, with Fireball Friday prevailing by 1.5m over Faiselle.
Fellow Albany trainer Adrian Shanks caused a boilover in the Albany Horseworld Pace (2265m) with eight-year-old mare Savanna.
Having her 75th career start, Savanna jumped a $51 chance but proved too strong for $1.34 favourite My Love Letters.
Promising three-year-old Powerplay was a dominant winner of the final race on the program, winning by an emphatic 21.7m after starting at very short odds of $1.06 for trainer Debra Lewis.
Lewis recorded a winning double on the program after Rumour Has It smashed her rivals by 33m in race two.
Alta Bonanza won race one for trainer Barry Howlett while Bettor Copagoodone was also a winner on the card.
