Local musicians to host Kwoorabup-Denmark bushfire relief fundraiser to help fire-affected community

Local musicians have banded together to host a Kwoorabup-Denmark bushfire relief fundraiser to raise funds for fellow community members affected by this month’s bushfire.

Rastatrix, MoonBass and DJ General Public and Pete and the Good Life will take the stage at the Denmark Civic Centre from 5.30pm on Saturday.

Organiser David Rastrick said they had previously planned a reggae concert for the same night but decided to turn the event into a fundraiser.

“We had a reggae concert planned in Denmark for this weekend and it was planned a while ago,” he said.

“Then the bushfire happened so we thought we may as well turn it into a bushfire fundraiser and just put all the funds towards that and attract some more people along.

“Rastatrix and DJ General Public were involved in the previous concert and decided to stay on board and then I asked MoonBass and the Good Life and they were keen as well.”

The civic centre will be filled with reggae tunes from Rastatrix, contemporary folk songs from Pete and the Good Life, dub music from DJ General Public and soul and R’n’B sounds from MoonBass.

Local food vendor GinLao will be selling authentic Laotian cuisine and the event is BYO.

Mr Rastrick said the event was a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together after a trying month.

“It will be a great way of getting together with fellow community members to support the community who have been adversely affected by the fires,” he said.

“It’s a great time to celebrate being alive and that we can still go out and enjoy live music.

“I’m not sure how much longer that will go on in WA.”

The money raised will be donated to the Denmark Community Foundation which allocates the funds to residents affected by the fires.
