Lions and Bombers set to battle it out for second spot on the Ongerup Football Association ladder

The battle for second spot on the Ongerup Football Association ladder is heating up with five rounds left in the 2021 season.

Newdegate and Lake Grace-Pingrup both notched comfortable victories in round 10 on Saturday, with only four points separating the two sides.

The Lions proved too strong at home, defeating Jerramungup by 64 points and registering their fifth win of the season.

Clint Westlake and Kim Newman starred in the 20.11 (131) to 10.7 (67) win with four goals each.

Jeremy Richardson added three goals for the home side and was joined in the best players list by youngster Matt Dykes and Dean Rintoul.

The Eagles were best served by Andy Solomon, Tate Barrett and Brendan Lee, but they weren’t able to win back-to-back games.

Lake Grace-Pingrup ensured they stayed within four points of the Lions in second spot after downing Boxwood Hill by 65 points.

The Bombers booted eight opening-term goals to lead by 30 points at the first change before extending it to 35 by the main break.

The home side kicked four unanswered goals in the third stanza before adding five in the last term to finish convincing 19.15 (129) to 9.10 (64) victors. Jackson Callope kicked five goals in the win.

Jackson Callope was a shining light in their fourth win of the season with five goals while Bodhi Clifton and Mitch O’Neill added four each.

Clifton was impressive in the win along with Bailey McGlinn and Triven Davey.

Michael Swarbrick, Matt Campbell and Josh Woods were in the best for Boxwood.
