Licence stripped from blood courier for reckless driving

A pathology blood courier has lost her licence for six months after she was caught recklessly driving while “running late” to an Albany drop-off. Last Thursday, Albany Magistrate’s Court was told Jay Reannan Delsen, 56, was seen by police “driving at speed” over a solid white line at the end of an Albany Highway overtaking lane to get past a cattle truck. Police prosecutors told the court she did the dangerous manoeuvre while approaching the crest of a hill she could not see over near Mt Barker on March 5. The court was told officers first intercepted Delsen travelling south at 140km/h — captured on police radar — in a 110km/h zone along Albany Highway before observing her travelling at the same speed through an 80km/h road works zone. After being pulled over, the 56-year-old told police she was running late for work. Delsen, who was not required to present in court, received a $1000 fine and had her licence disqualified for six months by Magistrate Raelene Johnston.
