The WA Liberal Party will back the City of Albany’s plan for a snaking Jacob’s Ladder-style hill climb from Middleton Beach to the National Anzac Centre, committing $1 million if elected.

The ladder attraction is a key feature of the City of Albany’s Mounts Master Plan, mapping an ambitious vision for the Mt Clarence (Corndarup) and Mt Adelaide (Irrerup) precincts up until 2045.

The zigzagging 830m staircase, dubbed the “Irrerup Ladder”, could pose a challenge for exercise junkies offering a raised hill climb from a trail head at Middleton Beach.

The party has already committed $400,000 for walk trails from Middleton Beach to Mt Clarence and $200,000 towards the City of Albany’s Spirit Soldiers vision.

Liberal candidate for Albany Scott Leary said the Mounts and Middleton beach would be the “next great attraction in Albany”.

“This... will provide a whole new experience for people as they come to Albany and explore,” he said.
