LGSHA 2024: Masters side clinch CBH Group Women’s Country Championships title, division one finish fourth

Lower Great Southern Hockey Association’s women’s division two masters finished undefeated to clinch the 2024 CBH Group Women’s Country Championships premiership last weekend. They were near faultless across their five group stage matches in Perth, netting 17 goals while only conceding two before cruising past Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association in the decider 4-0. They began their premiership tilt with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Avon 2 before crushing Eastern Districts Hockey Association 4 5-0. They then added the scalp of Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association to their tally with a strong 4-1 win before beating Peel 2 and Robins 4-0 and 2-0 respectively to book themselves a spot on the big dance. Renee Parsons was dominant in their premiership tilt and was named player of the tournament. The LGSHA’s division one side finished fourth after losing their third-place playoff match 1-0 to Geraldton on Sunday. They managed just one win from their four group stage matches, which came against their playoff superiors, but held on for two draws to finish third and force the match against Geraldton. The association’s second side fell agonisingly short of a division five premiership after going down East Avon Women’s Hockey Association in the decider on Sunday. After winning four matches and netting a division-high nine goals in their group stage games, LGSHA failed to convert their red-hot form into a premiership. East Avon, who were the only team to beat LGSHA during the group stage, replicated their earlier efforts with a 2-1 victory in the decider.
