Lee Aylett upstages State champion to score impressive Mt Barker Super Sedan Classic victory
Young gun Lee Aylett powered to an impressive win in the Mt Barker Super Sedan Classic at Les Gorman Park last Saturday.
The event doubled as a round of the WA Super Sedan Summer Series and Lee Aylett was in superb form, winning all three of his qualifying heats to start on the front row of the 20-lap feature race.
In the final, Lee Aylett had a terrific battle with State champion Gary Higgs before the latter spun while running in second place and went to the rear of the field.
Lee Aylett marched on and crossed the line 2.834 seconds ahead of Damon Trouchet, while Kemble Aylett finished in third place.
Adyme Harvey and Rob Knox rounded out the top five while Higgs recovered to finish in sixth place.
Higgs won three qualifying heats earlier in the day, while Kemble Aylett, Trouchet and Harvey were other heat winners.
Trouchet won the Betty Belfield (Masson) perpetual trophy as the highest-finishing club member in the super sedan feature race.
In the support divisions, Bryce Fisher proved too strong for Jarrod Pearce and Chesta Grinham in the junior sedans, and Clinton Theyer won the productions sedans.
Peter Herbert won a hotly contested street stocks category over Paul Bowman and Dave Watson.
Meanwhile in the WA Production Sedan Title in Moora last weekend, Albany’s Michael Clark and Aydan Trewern both made the 40-lap decider. Trewern retired after 25 laps, while Clark spent time running inside the top 10 before he slipped back to finish in 14th place, one lap down.
Drew Ogle prevailed in an epic finish, downing Kyle Sayer by 0.054 seconds on the line.
