Two impressive finishes from senior players Jessica McPartland and Shamara Letter have guided Mt Barker to an important victory over Vikings in the Albany Retravision Lower Great Southern Hockey Association women’s A-grade competition on Saturday.

In an evenly matched first half, the two sides were unable to break the deadlock as both defensive ends played particularly well.

McPartland bobbed up to finally end the goal drought, as she slotted home a goal in the bottom right-hand corner to beat Vikings keeper Gloria Terpstra.

Their 1-0 advantage was then doubled, when Letter produced a clever finish to hand her side the points in the round 11 contest.

Lani Frusher was rock solid for Mt Barker and was well supported by McPartland and Annabel Charlton.

Tully Joy provided plenty of drive for Vikings, Charlotte Powis worked hard and Lorissa Ferrell was among their better players.

In the other women’s A-grade clash, Manypeaks emerged 3-0 winners over North Albany, led by Courtney Robinson and Emma Pyle. Peaks had three different goal scorers as they strengthened their grip on top spot with a strong result.

In the men’s A-grade games, Spencer Park-Tigers defeated Manypeaks. Goals from Finn Edgar and Jack Dawson helped Spencer Park-Tigers prevail 2-1, cancelling out the goal scored by Peaks youngster Taylor Pocock.

North Albany beat Mt Barker 2-0 in their round 11 encounter.
