Arthur Jones part of winning Black Swans side as late goals secure third straight game against Croweaters

WA’s under-19 team finished the year on a high against South Australia at Thebarton Oval in Adelaide on Sunday. Mt Barker’s Arthur Jones played a key role in the Black Swans’ 10-point victory, as WA made it three wins from as many matches against the Croweaters this year. Jones was a vital contributor in the 9.14 (68) to 9.4 (58) victory, his second game in the 19s after shooting into draft calculations on the back of strong WAFL and PSA form. The Claremont/Wesley College speedster kicked a goal in the third term to give his side a nine-point lead but South Australia took the lead at the 14-minute mark of the final term. West Perth’s Lochie Paton snatched back the advantage with a special finish, snapping around the body against a strong breeze and then Claremont and Christ Church bull Angus Sheldrick kicked the sealer in the final minute with a nice running goal from an intercept mark. Jones and Swan Districts premiership colt Max Chipper were important on the outside, along with East Fremantle’s Corey Warner, while captain Finn Gorringe was his reliable in the back half. East Perth’s bottled blonds Kade Dittmar (19 disposals, eight inside 50s, seven clearances, seven tackles and a goal) and Kaden Harbour were brilliant, with Dittmar winning plenty of contested footy and Harbour helping lock the ball inside WA’s attacking 50 with some big tackles and pressure acts. Fellow Royal James Tunstill (20 disposals and five inside 50s) was also prominent in the midfield alongside Jack Clarke medallist Josh Browne (21) and fellow East Fremantle player Taj Woewodin (18 and six marks). East Fremantle utility Jack Williams did a bit of everything, kicking a couple of first-half goals, helping out in the ruck and even taking some late intercept marks in defence.
