A 39-man initial senior squad has been named by the Great Southern Football League as they prepare for their campaign in division 3 at the 2019 Landmark Country Football Championships in Perth next month.

The GSFL fell short in their bid to be promoted into division 2 at the annual championships last year, losing the division 3 grand final to Eastern Districts.

Coach Craig Dew will again take the reins of the senior team.

A preliminary squad has been named and Dew said he there could still be plenty of changes to the make-up of the squad.

“We will have an initial squad of around 40,” Dew said. “Some of the guys named are undecided but the majority of them are good to go.”

“We have plenty of midfield depth and will be strong forward of the footy.

“This is not finalised and there could be a few changes still over the next three weeks.”

In-form midfielders Logan Stubber and Dave Parker are not among the squad while Dew confirmed key players Jordan Heil, Daniel Henderson and Shayne Zanetti were all unavailable.

A season-ending injury will see Michael Trevenen miss the carnival and two colts-aged players Alex Pearce and Hamish McMorran have been included and their availability will depend on how the Great Southern Storm fare.

Last year’s captain and sole All Star representative Matt Orzel has not been approached yet given he’s only played one game this season.

The GSFL face Central Wheatbelt, North Midlands and Regional Allstars.

The first training session will be held at Tigerland at 6pm on Monday night.
