Juvenile charged with DUI after crash that brought down power lines and closed Princess Royal Drive

A juvenile allegedly returned an alcohol reading of 0.15 or more after hitting a power pole and bringing down powerlines in a crash which closed a section of Princess Royal Drive. Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash about 10.45pm on Saturday, September 18, where a white Holden Commodore had sustained heavy damage after slamming into a power pole near the intersection of Bolt Terrace. Shortly after the crash, the power pole and a transformer were lying on the ground in front of the vehicle and a young man, believed to be the driver, was under police guard. The area was closed to the public due to live powerlines across the road. Western Power and emergency services removed the powerlines and cleared the road of debris before it was reopened hours later. Police said the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and he had escaped uninjured. The boy has been charged with driving under the influence and is due to face Albany Children’s Court in November.
