Joint Noel Pearson Memorial winners, Luke Fraser wins modified round

Junior sedan competitor Bryce Fisher and production sedan driver Michael Clark have added their names to the Noel Pearson Memorial trophy after finishing on equal points, while Luke Fraser reigned supreme in round 3 of the WA Modified Sedan Series at Attwell Park Speedway on Saturday.

It was a busy evening for the Albany Speedway Club with two major events but Luke Fraser upset the local drivers to claim his second round of the State series by prevailing in the 20-lap final.

Luke Fraser won the top six shootout to qualify in pole position for the feature race and he led from start to finish, holding off returning Albany competitor Laurie Dowsett.

Dowsett pushed hard on the final lap in, but Luke Fraser prevailed in a tight finish.

Albany’s Calon Ball finished on the podium after a strong run in the feature race and the top five was rounded out by State champion Branden Fraser and Narrogin’s Paul Stevens.

Earlier in the heat racing that provided great two and three-wide action, Luke Fraser and Calon Ball took out the first two preliminaries before Dowsett claimed heat three.

Heat four went to Luke Fraser and the final two qualifiers were won by Albany pair Sean Theyer and Miranda Ball.

The Noel Pearson Memorial was awarded to the highest point-scoring ASC member from any division. Two new names were added to the list as both Fisher and Clark finished on 136 points.

In the juniors, Fisher won two of his three heat races and then was too strong in the final.

In production sedans, Clark won two heats and the final and, like Fisher, finished second in his other race to top the standings.

Former winner Jacinta Tester and Lenny Bates were close behind on 128 points.

Albany’s next meeting is on January 9, with Amazing Albany 5000 and Junior Sedan Madness.
