Jetty at Anzac Peace Park closed following failed safety inspection, city asking for opinions on its future

The convoy jetty adjoining Albany’s Anzac Peace Park has been closed due to safety issues, with the City of Albany soon to decide on the structure’s future now that it has reached the end of its “service life”. A sign was erected at the entrance of the jetty, also known as the Anzac Departure Memorial Jetty, this week barring tourists and locals from walking the structure following the results of a structural inspection that deemed it unsafe for public use. City of Albany engineering and assets manager Nicholas Westerberg said the facility, which runs into the shallow waters of the Princess Royal Harbour, had reached the end of its service life. He said the city now sought the public’s opinion on the jetty to help the council decide on the structure’s future. “The City of Albany is seeking community feedback on whether the jetty should be maintained or decommissioned,” he said. “Council will consider all feedback and determine the future of the Anzac Peace Park Jetty, considering community sentiment, safety, and long-term asset management.” The jetty was established in 2010-2011 as an element of the Anzac Peace Park and features the names of soldiers that left Australia via Albany to join the war efforts.
