Inspired final term helps young Kangas power past Tigers, Lions bound to six straight and Magpies win on the road

North Albany strengthened their finals claims with an impressive 21-point victory over Railways in round 6 of the Great Southern Football League competition today. The Kangas trailed at every change but produced a superb five-goal final term to run right over the top of the Tigers and record their third win of the season. Talon Delacey enhanced his Kleemann Medal prospects with another best-on-ground performance, his 25 possessions and three telling goals instrumental in the Kangas come from behind result. After a goalless third quarter from both sides, the Tigers went into the fourth with a slender one-point buffer and that was quickly erased when Taj Williams booted a clever goal to give the visitors the lead inside the first two minutes. Lachlan Hansen then kicked truly from his long-range set shot but the Tigers got an immediate reply through Kane Shephard at the top of the goal square. The Kangas though dominated the final term from there as Delacey booted his third, followed by Williams and Heath Ravenhill put the icing on the cake as his side emerged with a terrific 9.10 (64) to 6.7 (43) victory. Delacey won the Think Mental Health Round match ball was well supported by full back Regan Lloyd, who did a fantastic job to limit Tigers star Matt Palfrey to just two goals. Nathan Crudeli and Addison Dew were important at the stoppages and youngster Aden Castlehow was a clear winner in the ruck battle. Mitch Green was rampant in the first term and was among his sides best contributors, Coen Jackman gave his side a real presence and Shephard also toiled hard but the Tigers managed only one goal after half time in the slippery conditions. Across at Centennial Stadium in today’s other fixture, Denmark-Walpole shrugged off Albany after half time to finish winners by 43 points. Shayne Zanetti was again outstanding, winning the match ball for his efforts that included two majors, while Jayden Woods and Brodie Reeve were also key to the Magpies win. The visitors led by only eight points at half time and despite their inaccuracy, pulled away in the second half to win 12.24 (96) to 8.5 (53). Dionne Woods and Luke Galantino both finished with three majors. New recruit Dylan Thomas was impressive for the Sharks along with Cameron Jones and Red Rogers while Zac Pearson was their multiple goal kicker with two. The Sharks won the second term, kicking four goals to three over the Magpies. An explosive third term from Royals showed why they remain the team to beat in 2020, as they piled on nine unanswered goals to help record a comfortable 64-point winners over Mt Barker at Sounness Park yesterday. The reigning premiers by nine points led at quarter time before that margin was reduced to a single goal at the main change. Small forward Jayson Ford turned it on in the third stanza booting all of his four majors in that period while Hamish McMorran was swung forward booting two goals as they helped the visitors open up a handy 64-point buffer. The Bulls did their best to reel in the Lions in the last and had more inside 50s but the damage was done. The Lions ran out comfortable 17.10 (112) to 6.12 (48) winners to remain undefeated after six rounds. Declan McNamara received the match ball for his impressive four-quarter performance, McMorran slotted two goals and was influential in the back half as well while Ryan Kinnear (three goals) and Ford (four goals) were also instrumental in the win. Mitch Jackson battled hard in the ruck for the Bulls while Lee Pavlovich stopped numerous Lions attacks across half back and youngsters Kyle Smith and Tristan Ballard were gallant in defeat.
