Incredible escape near Albany as members of the public pull woman from car moments before it goes up in flames

A woman has been pulled from the wreckage of her car moments before it went up in flames in an incredible escape near Albany this afternoon. Nearby property owners and a bus driver rushed to the 48-year-old’s aid about 4pm after she veered off a gravel road and rolled her car near the intersection of Stanley Road and Catt Road in Youngs Siding. The woman’s rescuers managed to cut through her seatbelt and pull her from the Holden Adventra wagon, which had landed on its roof, just before it was engulfed by fire. The blaze spread to nearby bushland, burning through about one hectare before firefighters brought it under control. Denmark Police officer-in-charge Sergeant Matt Hartfield said the woman was the only occupant of the vehicle. She was treated at the scene then taken away by St John Ambulance with possible broken bones. The woman had been travelling west on Stanley Road, when her car rolled into bushland about 100m from the nearest home. Crews from Denmark Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Youngs Siding Bushfire Brigade extinguished the blaze. “The homeowners of the property have pulled her from the car with the help of a bus driver who stopped as well,” Sgt Hartfield said. “They got her out and onto the road just before it was engulfed in flames, so she was incredibly lucky.”
