Inaugural OnCourt Tennis Junior Singles tournament at Lawley Park attracts 46 kids

The inaugural OnCourt Tennis Junior Singles tournament at Lawley Park was a major success with 46 kids taking part on Sunday.

Kids braved difficult conditions, with rain falling for a large part of the day along with strong winds before the finals were played in bright sunshine.

A large proportion of players came from Albany, but the event also attracted a strong contingent from Denmark along with players from Kendenup, Tenderden, and Perth.

The event was split up into four categories with all four groups playing off in round robin qualifications to work out final rankings to determine a main draw and consolation.

Girls and boys played together as almost four times as many boys took part then girls.

The red group was for kids aged 5-7 and played in the service box modified court while the orange group was for kids 7-10 with three quarter modified courts.

The green group was played on full courts for kids 7-14 and the yellow group was for kids aged 11-14.

Anneliese Slade defeated George King in the red group main draw while Alex Jefferis won the consolation.

Austin Slade proved too strong in the orange group main draw, winning ahead of Lauren Buis while Bella Thompson won the consolation.

The green group main draw was taken out by Denby Sharpe over Bryce Galos.

Evan Hancock won the green group consolation.

Griffin Castles defeated Kai Jones in the yellow group main draw as Chad Stone claimed the consolation.
