A huge crowd flocked to Percy Spencer Racecourse for a historic day to witness the inaugural running of the Wellington & Reeves Bluff Knoll. The lucrative slot race boasted $357,060 in prizemoney and was run over 1099m — the height of Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Range National Park. About 2000 people were on course on Sunday with marquees and VIP tents filled to the brim while others bathed in the sunshine on the grass area as they took part in country WA’s richest race. Live music kept plenty of punters entertained and the crowd sang the words to the official Bluff Knoll theme song Ain’t No Mountain High Enough before the running of the big race. Gemma’s Son delivered an upset victory in the Bluff Knoll for successful slot owners RAM Racing Syndicate. The RAM Racing Syndicate, many of whom were dressed in black cowboy outfits, celebrated long and hard after the victory.
