IN PICTURES: Police and emergency service personnel take to the chilly water for second Polar Plunge

About 80 people showed up to Middleton Beach on Saturday to take a chilly plunge into the winter water or show support for the event that has raised $9142. It is the second year the fundraising event for Special Olympics WA has run, surpassing the fundraising goal of $7500 and the $5000 raised in 2023. Brave plungers in eight teams dressed up or in uniform let out screams as they jumped from the Middleton Beach jetty into the freezing water. Proceeds from the Polar Plunge will go towards funding sporting programs, equipment, events, sports coaches and medals for Special Olympics WA athletes with intellectual disabilities. Event founder and organiser Constable Lizzy Alderson said it was a great community event on a day when the sun decided to shine.
