IN PICTURES: Mt Barker Turf Club welcomes strong local crowd for Mungrup Mt Barker Sprint at Frost Park

A lively local crowd turned out to Frost Park Racecourse on Sunday for the Mungrup Mt Barker Sprint, coming along to support a host of Great Southern trainers, horses and jockeys. The sprint race day marked the Mt Barker Turf Club’s first meeting of the season at Frost Park, with earlier meetings on the 2026 calendar moved to Albany. Though the town was hit with a spell of rain on Saturday afternoon, a sunny morning the next day meant the track was ready to go by Sunday afternoon for the feature race of their season calendar. The first of nine races kicked off just after 1pm on Sunday and people trickled through the gates right up until 5pm, when all gathered to the mounting yard to look over the prospects for the feature Mungrup Mt Barker Sprint race over 1300m. Spectators young and old lined the fence alongside hopeful owners for the day’s big race to watch Wineaclocksumwhere bring home the win for Albany trainer Samantha Faithfull. In between races, the crowds were kept entertained with running races on the track: first a children’s race, then a women’s and a men’s 100m dash. Participants kicked off their shoes and ran their fastest, chasing a cash prize of $100 for each of the winners.
