The Lower Great Southern Hockey Association turf was flush with pink on Saturday as the women’s sides went head-to-head for the association’s annual Cancer Awareness Round. Spectators braved the cold, filling the stands to watch the two special fixtures to honour Albany hockey stalwarts Jo Burling and Kellie York, who both lost their battles with breast cancer. Women’s A-grade teams Spencer Park and North Albany faced off for the 21st edition of the Jo Burling Memorial Game, with the nailbiting match a one-all draw. Spencer Park Dark claimed a 2-1 victory against Spencer Park Light in the Kellie York Memorial Game. The clubs raised $2440 from their raffle and food sales, with the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association pledging $2000 more.
