Eager young surfers hit the water at Mutton Bird on Saturday for the Albany Boardriders’ annual Junior Wavefest. Despite some rain, the grommets remained in high spirits as they competed in solid conditions and used their free time to frolic in the breakwater in front of the event camp. The event attracted 40 surfers from around the Great Southern. Zen Shepherd and Lily Kuret claimed victories in the under-18 boys and girls divisions respectively and there was plenty of great surfing on display, highlighted by close battles in the under-16 boys and under-14 boys finals. Albany Boardriders president David Beeck said it was a wonderful day of surfing from the young talent in the region.
