IN PICTURES: Hundreds turn out for successful start to Great Southern Football League Women’s 2024 season

Hundreds of footy players and spectators turned out at McLean Park in Denmark on Saturday for the triple-header opening round of the Great Southern Football League Women’s season. Railways drew first blood after defeating a spirited Mt Barker side by 24 points, before Albany got their grand final retribution against Royals, charging to a 16-point triumph. The final game was contested between Denmark-Walpole who flexed their muscles on their home turf, storming to a 38-point win over North Albany. A DJ played tunes between goals battling the sounds of beeping horns that rang from cars surrounding the boundary line. The canteen was pumping out lolly bags and sumptuous pastries as many players and spectators set up to watch all three games, revelling in the footy fever.
