Hundreds of people gathered at Retravision Stadium on Thursday for the Great Southern Football League’s night of nights, the 2022 Kleemann Medal count. Players, coaches and officials from the league’s six clubs were among the crowd that dressed sharply for the annual gala awards night. The prestigious Kleemann Medal is awarded to the best and fairest player in the league competition. As many expected, it was a two-horse race and Railways’ Matt Palfrey and Mt Barker’s Zach Jackson tied for the honour with 21 votes. A host of other awards were announced on the night, including the GSFL volunteer of the year, GSFL coaches’ player of the year, umpire of the year and the Sean Plaisted trophy. The Albany Advertiser footballer of the year and GSFL team of the year were also revealed.
