IN PICTURES: Diverse array of talent on display at Albany Art Group’s Summer Delights exhibition

The Albany Art Group officially opened its 61st summer exhibition, Summer Delights, to the public at the Albany Town Hall on Friday. Initially a group of eight artists, the Albany Art Group has grown to become a community of about 90 members and is one of the longest-running and biggest art groups in the Great Southern. The group offers a range of courses and workshops run by volunteers, including life drawing and groups for portraits, pastel drawing and printing. Friday’s exhibition showcased the diversity and talent nurtured by the collaborative and the supportive approach the group takes towards art and creativity, featuring works across a variety of mediums including pencil and crayon, oils, charcoal and sculpture. The exhibition was officially opened by group president Aaron Kaye who thanked the City of Albany for its ongoing support and for providing the central and historic town hall for use as an exhibition space. “I believe we have a right and responsibility to provide a valuable and enjoyable experience to not only our own community but to our ever increasing visitors,” Kaye said. “The Albany Art Group does just that, holding exhibitions as part of the Great Southern Art and Craft Trail and, of course, our prestigious summer art exhibition, providing a much appreciated tourist event that showcases the group’s diverse array of talent.” Twenty-one pieces were sold on opening night. The exhibition runs for two weeks, closing on January 15, and is open every day from 10am to 5pm.
