IN PICTURES: Cinefest OZ Albany puts on colourful three-day explosion of culture and film in Great Southern

Albany was the place to be for film buffs in April when Cinefest OZ Albany delivered a dazzling three-day program full of unique films and cultural experiences. After a welcome to country lunch with Lester Coyne at the Great Southern Museum on Thursday, local song merchants the Shantymen gave a rollicking performance at Six Degrees before a screening of the Albany short film Granny Grommets. Friday was a celebration of Indigenous culture, film and food at the Albany Town Hall where actor Kelton Pell hosted Deadly Kinjarling, a free event featuring performances by Bilyabeats, Djidi Djidi and Mooditch Nop. At 7pm, the new thriller-horror flick Sting, starring Ryan Corr and industry icon Noni Hazelhurst, received its WA premiere at Orana Cinema. The premieres continued on Sunday after a Meet the Filmmakers breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn with WA WW1 film Before Dawn, nostalgic surf-flick You Should Have Been Here Yesterday, and an after party at Eve brought the film fest to a close.
