IN PICTURES: Albany pauses to commemorate 50 years since of end Australian involvement in Vietnam War

A large crowd gathered to commemorate the service of Vietnam Veterans at the South East Asia Memorial within the forts precinct on Sunday. The annual Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Service hosted by the Albany sub-branch of the RSL was a chance to commemorate 50 years since the end of Australia’s involvement in the conflict. Albany sub-branch president Helen Tasker welcomed members of the community to the ceremony and The Rev. Canon Karen Cave led the service. Sub-branch vice president Roger Smith conducted a reading before wreathes were laid and RSL member Phil Maguire read the Ode. City of Albany Band’s Cynthia van Dongen performed the Last Post and The Rouse either side of a minute silence, then it was over to retired major Mike Murphy to deliver a keynote address. Following the service, members of the community were invited back to the Albany RSL headquarters for a social function.
