IN PICTURES: Albany Gibbsters celebrate raising $26,000 for Royal Flying Doctor Service

The Albany Gibbsters have done it again, raising more than $26,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service through their annual fundraising raffle.

Riders and supporters gathered at Retravision Stadium on Sunday to celebrate the draw, which raised $20,000 through 300 raffle ticket sales and more than $6000 through an auction.

The growing group of Albany mates have taken on The Gibb Challenge for the past five years, competing in a grueling 660km, five-day relay cycling challenge on the Gibb River Road.

Eighteen Gibbsters are set to take on the challenge from May 13-20.

Albany Gibbster Don Perfrement said the RFDS was a vital cause for country communities and thanked locals for getting behind them for another year.

“So many people’s lives are touched by the flying doctor,” he said.

“It’s quite eye opening, they are the unseen heroes, forever in the air flying people all over the State and all over Australia in fact.

“The more you get into it the more you realise how important it is to country folk particularly — so we just keep doing it.”
