IN PICTURES: Albany community joins special service for Vietnam Veterans day 50th anniversary

Veterans, their families and the wider community marked Vietnam Veteran’s Day on Sunday — the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of Australian combat troops from the conflict. Rain forced the service from Mt Adelaide indoors to Albany RSL headquarters on Stirling Terrace, where the City of Albany Band took attendees back to the era with a special concert. Over more than a decade, about 60,000 Australians served in the defence of South Vietnam, with more than 3000 Australians wounded and 521 killed. After the service, which was headlined by a rousing keynote address by Albany Vietnam War veteran Major Mike Murphy (retired), attendees enjoyed a reception hosted by the RSL.
