Consecutive best-on-ground performances by North Albany young gun Talon Delacey have set up a thrilling finish to the Albany Advertiser footballer of the year in the final three rounds of the regular season.

The votes are awarded in all 10 home-and-away rounds of the Great Southern Football League season and voting now goes in-house.

After five rounds, Denmark-Walpole ruckman Shayne Zanetti was in front by two votes, but Delacey has joined him on 13 votes after being judged best afield against Railways and Albany in the past fortnight.

However, Zanetti has maintained his superb season polling in every game so far after a three-vote performance against Albany in round six.

Zanetti then added one more in his side’s win over Mt Barker on Saturday.

Both Delacey and Zanetti are hot fancies for this year’s Kleemann Medal, the GSFL’s highest individual award.

Railways defender Mitch Green is hot on the leaders’ heels after polling four votes in the Tigers’ two successive defeats.

Royals duo Declan McNamara and Ryan Kinnear round out the top five on seven and six votes respectively.

McNamara polled consecutive best-on-grounds in rounds five and six to leap into contention, while Kinnear polled one vote in his side’s win over Railways on the weekend and has now polled in four of his past five games.

Voting will remain silent in the final three rounds of the season before the winner is announced at the Kleemann Medal presentations next month.
