Impressive win at Classic
Royal Fremantle’s Andrei Ezergailis has held on to win the 2017 Cleanaway Albany Classic at Albany Golf Club on the weekend.
After recording an impressive three-under 69 on Saturday, Ezergailis shot 77 on the second day of play to finish with a gross score of 146, one shot ahead of Kristian Mitchell from Lake Karrinyup Country Club and Hartfield Country Club’s Calum Juniper.
Juniper and Mitchell produced a mirrored performance as Mitchell shot three-over 75 followed by an even-72 while Juniper started strongly with a 72 but could only manage 75 on Sunday.
Ezergailis avenged his third placing at last year’s event following a three-way play-off.
Lisa Taylor from Kojonup Golf Club took out the women’s title with a gross score of 161, well ahead of Bunbury’s Jo Jones on 173.
Taylor shot a five-over 77 on the first day and backed up with a steady 84 on day two to claim a comprehensive victory.
The women’s net event was won by local product Toni Hunter with a score of 67, edging out Narpanup Golf Club’s Margaret Skinner on 65.
Denmark Country Club’s Gary Hughes was the winner of the men’s net event after recording a score of 75 to beat Rockingham Golf Club’s Mark Nikara and Albany’s Brian Walker both on 74.
