Horse of the year to be crowned as part of Albany show

The Great Southern Horse of the Year will be crowned during the horses in action section of the 2022 Albany Agricultural Show. Returning for the first time after several years, the competition will determine the best horse from across the region. The horses in competition have already placed highly in other country shows including the Dinninup Show, Mt Barker show, Esperance Show and in Albany Horsemen’s Association events in March and October. There will also be competitions judging the supreme of Show Pony on Friday and Supreme of Show Horse which will be judged on Saturday. Horses in action section member Sue Colgate said there were several categories the horses would be judged on over the competitions. “They’re looking for conformation of the horse, presentation of the horse and the rider, and the horse’s manners and behaviour,” she said. Show jumping will run from 8.30am on Friday and Saturday, with the six bar for ponies and horses competitions also held on Saturday. A full dressage program will be held on Sunday.
