Albany duo Hoi An and Ex Sport Man finished unplaced in the Group 2 $500,000 Sky Racing WA Guineas (1600m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Hoi An prepared by Roy Rogers and the Steve Wolfe-trained Ex Sport Man finished eighth and 11th respectively in the three-year-old feature on the opening day of the Masters carnival.

Both gallopers jumped as rank outsiders in the field of 13 and they were unable to match it with impressive winner Treasured Star, who won by 1.8 lengths.

Hoi An settled midfield for Shaun O’Donnell and turning for home had Treasured Star and Buzzoom to its outside but faded to finish 5.2 lengths behind the winner.

Ex Sport Man was inside of Hoi An in running and was urged along before the home turn by jockey Troy Turner but was disappointing in the straight and was beaten 6.8 lengths.

The Spruiker and Watch Me Dance represented Wolfe in the listed $100,000 Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m) but both weren’t able to play a part in the finish.

After winning five races in a row last campaign, The Spruiker returned under Peter Knuckey and sat wide worse than midfield in running before finishing strongly in the straight to grab fifth down the outside beaten by 2.9 lengths.

Watch Me Dance settled midfield but was being pushed along before the home straight and was ninth, beaten by 6.3 lengths behind the winner Hot Zed.

Island Charm finished third in the final race on the program for Rogers and O’Donnell, beaten 1.6 lengths.

The Albany-owned God Has Chosen, now trained by Lindsey Smith, finished second in the last race on the card.
