The Hockeyroos recorded their seventh win of the FIH Women’s Pro League to strengthen their finals chances after a hard-fought 3-2 win over China in Changzhou last Sunday.

With Tambellup’s Penny Squibb in their side, the Hockeyroos went behind early against the hosts before Maddy Fitzpatrick was finally able to equalise in the third quarter.

Things opened up in the fourth term as both sides went on the attack, with Australia going ahead through Emily Chalker and then adding a third when Rosie Malone pounced on the counter-attack from a saved Chinese penalty corner.

Xu Wenyu converted a late penalty corner to give China a sniff but some strong late defending from the Hockeyroos ensured they hung on and moved to third on the standings.

Squibb played in defence and was brought into the game in the fifth minute. She made 16 passes and four blocks during her time on the pitch.

Squibb and the Hockeyroos squad now travel to Europe, where they face Great Britain this Sunday in London on Sunday at 11pm WA time.
