Highways of the seas

At anyone moment there are hundreds of ships off WA’s coast.

The term highways of the ocean is used for shipping lanes which run along the coast.

These images from AIS Ship Tracking shows the volume of cargo and passenger vessels moving along the coast each day.

The Pilbara has the most activity with dozens of ships running between the region and south east Asia.

Fremantle is also another hive of activity.
