Highly successful return as hundreds pack sidelines to watch junior and senior roller derby games in Albany

Albany made a statement in their return to senior competition, hosting a highly successful first local roller derby game since COVID on Saturday night. In the seniors game Albany Roller Derby Breakers clashed against Margaret River’s Dread Pirate Rollers and earned themselves a home victory. Albany Roller Derby League president Natalie Jarvis was incredibly proud of the team’s return. “It was a pretty great turn out,” she said. “It was great energy through the crowd and there was lots of cheering an love for the juniors and the adults playing.” Albany Roller Derby Breakers dominated their senior game against the Dread Pirate Rollers, scoring 170 to 124, to take the honours. Most valuable players for Dread Pirate Rollers were Brandi Patrick and Catherine Price while Chia-hsuan Tung and Jordan Carson were MVPs for the Derby Breakers. In the juniors game West Coast Savages and Albany’s Great Southern Riptides face off, with the Savage’s scoring 285 to Riptides’ 145. Junior MVPs for the match were Great Southern Riptides Paiton Sieb and Tilly Bradshaw, with Lily Gheradi and Ginger Clifford taking MVP honours for West Coast Savages.
