GSSA 2023: Men’s division two league title to be decided in final round after Rovers 1-1 draw with Phoenix

Rovers will have to win their final game against Bayswater if they are to secure the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s division two title after grinding to a 1-1 draw with Phoenix on Saturday. A Jordan Thomas’ goal wasn’t enough to guide his team to a title-clinching win over the third-placed Phoenix. Phoenix’ Nathan De Vos netted a sole goal to deny Rovers the coveted trophy, keeping Caledonians in the hunt for the title heading into the final games of the season. In title deciding games Rovers play Bayswater on Wednesday and Caledonians face Phoenix on Wednesday. Caledonians currently sit two points adrift of Rovers ahead of their round 20 game. Meanwhile Phoenix defeated Bayswater 4-2 in the other division two match. In the men’s division one competition on Saturday, three separate players bagged hat-tricks in Caledonians’ thumping 9-3 victory over Polonia. Caledonians’ Levi Clay, Joseph Love and Oliver Trichilo scored three goals apiece in their 12th win of the season. Renoir Nash, Craig Jordan and Escher Nash were the scorer for Polonia. Stirling Rangers defeated Bayswater 3-0 in the other division one match. On Friday night in women’s division one league competition Denmark stormed to a 14-0 win over Sonics, Lumeah Masih finishing with a hat-trick in their 11th win of 2023. Elsewhere Melina Franklin (five goals) and Georgia Whitelaw (three) were prolific in Rovers 12-0 win against Sharks. Phoenix defeated Polonia 3-2 in the other division one clash. In the women’s division two competition, title winners Phoenix accounted for Stirling Rangers 6-0, Caledonians defeated Polonia 1-0 and Denmark Rezzies thumped Denmark Carnabys. In women’s division three competition Denmark Dream prevailed over Bayswater 3-0 and Rovers edged past Sharks 2-0.
