Caledonians hopes of winning the men’s division two league title in the Great Southern Soccer Association were dealt a blow on Saturday, settling for a point in their clash with Phoenix. Two well-taken goals from Phoenix’s Nathan Devos prevented Caledonians moving within five points of ladder leaders Rovers after both sides were locked at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes. Morgan Davis found the back of the net for Caledonians and a cruel own goal bobbled in as they drew their second game in 2023. Meanwhile Bayswater forfeited their clash with Rovers in the other division two game. In the men’s division one competition on Saturday, top side Caledonians returned to their winning ways with a 3-0 victory over third-placed Phoenix. Oliver Trichilo, Joseph Love and Doug Grant all hit the score sheet to help their side to a 10th win of the season. One point separates Caledonians, who have a game in hand, and the second-placed Rovers with five rounds left to play in the league. Rovers kept the pressure on with a comfortable 4-1 win over Bayswater as Michael Draper bagged a brace while Justin Bielecki and Josph Jaruel also hit the score sheet. Brad Copeland was the sole scorer for Bayswater, who are still searching their second win of the campaign. In women’s division one action on Friday night Mt Barker remain in the box seat for a second-straight league title after Rovers forfeited their encounter. Caledonians remain a mathematical chance to snag the league title following their 8-1 demolition of Sonics. Tahryn Thompson netted a hat-trick while Megan Orr (two goals), Shelley Thompson, Kristen Pyrz-Brown and Maddie Manolini also chipped in. In women’s division two results, Denmark Carnaby’s drew 2-2 with Stirling Rangers, Denmark Rezzies claimed a 6-0 win over Caledonians and Phoenix stormed to a 3-0 victory over Polonia on Friday. Mt Barker edged past Rovers 3-1 in division three while Sharks got over the top of Bayswater with a 4-0 triumph. In the men’s division three competition, Rovers Vets prevailed over ACC 5-2, Denmark were 4-1 winners over Great Southern Grammar and Phoenix defeated Caledonians 3-1. In the other fixtures Old Boys coasted to a 3-1 win over Rovers and Bayswater notched their 10th victory for the season with a 3-2 win over Cross Keys.
