GSSA 2023: Albany Bayswater advance to men’s division one cup final after upset win over Rovers

Albany Bayswater knocked out reigning cup champions Rovers in their semifinal of the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s division one cup competition on Saturday.
Zach Cash, Matthew Walmsley and Snowbet Aung found the back of the net for the winners despite goals to Rovers’ Brad Bielecki and Justin Bielecki.
Bayswater will meet last year’s cup finalists Caledonians after they advanced in their semifinal against Stirling Rangers with a comfortable 3-0 win on Saturday.
After a slow start, Caledonians settled into their rhythm and controlled the match.
Kai Thrupp-Probst was highly influential, scoring two superb goals from midfield to earn a player of the match award while Matt Eyles also found the back of the net in the triumph.
In the men’s division two competition on Saturday, Rovers’ Thobani Hlophi netted a brace in their 2-1 win against Polonia.
Phoenix accounted for Caledonians with a 4-1 victory, Nathan Devos (two goals), Jaymon Spaanderman (one) and Noah Van Der Schaaf (one) all chipping in.
Denmark’s pursuit of back-to-back cup titles were boosted in the women’s division one cup competition, thumping Sharks 12-0 in their semifinal on Friday night.
Tayah Mastalerz (four) Mei Jones (three), Lowana Winter (two) were the multiple goalscorers for the reigning champions.
Meanwhile, goals to Steph Grant and Kayla Holden fired Caledonians to a 2-1 win against Phoenix, booking their place in the final.
In the women’s division two competition, Phoenix prevailed over Stirling Rangers 11-0, Emma Witton netting a hat-trick.
Denmark Reizzies were 3-1 winners against Polonia in the other semifinal.
Rovers defeated Mt Barker 3-1, Denmark Dream claimed a 5-1 win against Sharks in the women’s division three matches.
In men’s division three, Polonia edged past Phoenix 3-2 and Old Boys thumped Bayswater 6-2.
