GSFL 2024: Brown, Peake and Valli all secure 10 coaches’ votes on NAIDOC Round as top four takes shape

Three standout performances earned perfect 10s in the Great Southern Football League’s Coaches’ Player of the Year award, with three players mutually selected as best-on-ground during NAIDOC Round. Mt Barker’s Tyreice Brown, Albany’s Brett Peake and Railways’ Ryley Valli grabbed all 10 votes in their respective fixtures on Saturday as the top four takes shape with one more round left until voting goes silent. Brown was sublime in the middle and at half-back in the Bulls’ agonising one-point loss to the Lions, propelling himself into the top 10 and was rightfully awarded the match ball to go with his three Albany Advertiser Footballer of the Year votes. Peake booted yet another bag of eight goals in the Sharks’ mauling of Denmark-Walpole and has one hand on his third Sean Plaisted Trophy with 52 goals so far this season. It was the second time the veteran has kicked eight goals in a game and leads the league for majors kicked by a whopping 22 with injured Bulls star Zach Jackson way back in second on 30. Valli notched his third 10-vote match in the Tigers’ 161-point demolition of North Albany to open up an eight-vote lead at the top of the coaches’ votes leaderboard. The former Claremont midfielder has been an exceptional inclusion for the Tigers this season, polling the maximum five votes from a coach on eight occasions to lead the standings with 60. Lions on-baller Declan McNamara surrendered the lead to Valli after going voteless in round 11 and sits in second on 52 votes. Star Sharks forward Isaac Baum is third on 47 votes, one ahead of teammate and WA Country State player Bailey Taylor in fourth. Tigers midfielders Bailey Bennett and Jayden Scott are equal fifth on 39 votes. Votes in round 12 will be published before voting is silent until the remaining votes and winner are announced on Kleemann Medal night.
