GSFL 2023: Injured Railways midfielder Logan Stubber leads race for Coaches’ Player of the Year Award

Injured Railways midfielder Logan Stubber led the race for the 2023 Great Southern Football League Coaches’ Player of the Year Award when voting went silent for the final three rounds of the season. Stubber, a former winner of the award, is awaiting scan results for a knee injury he suffered in the Tigers’ loss to Mt Barker in round 12. Fears are the 2019 Kleemann Medal winner has gone down with another anterior cruciate ligament injury. Four votes in the game when he was injured shot Stubber to 58 votes, clear of Albany’s Isaac Baum. Baum, who is also nursing his own knee injury, has not played in the last three games for the Sharks and is second on 49 votes. Mt Barker’s Daniel Patching and Sharks’ Bryce Blaszkow are next with 41 each while Tigers’ Jayden Scott (37 votes) rounds out the top five. After eight rounds Stubber was fourth on the leaderboard but he picked up a perfect 10 in round nine to get within three votes of Baum. Another nine votes in round 10 helped Stubber take the lead while Blaszkow was also on the move, leaping to fourth spot. Blaszkow picked up six votes in the Sharks loss to Royals in round 12 to move to equal third. Lions’ Joel Flick and Kangas’ Matt Orzel are other players to have figured prominently in voting in the past month.
