GSFL 2020 Royals preview: Premiers pin hopes on next tier of young guns

Reigning premiers Royals are confident that their next tier of young players can help push them towards back-back flags this season. The Lions will have to overcome the loss of a number of premiership stars in 2020 and will look to their colts and reserves to fill the void. Departing quartet Steven Edwards, Corey Ward, Tyrese Pickett-Miller and Poch Amores will be sorely missed at Centennial Stadium. Premiership coach Andrew Ruck said colts players Sam Freeman, Cooper Hendrickson and Tyreice Brown would be given first crack in his senior team this season and could play a pivotal role. Declan McNamara is set to be a big inclusion for the Lions after playing for Beverley last season while other inclusions Adrian Cinanni, Rivah Bocian and Paul Donaldson will also play league throughout the year. Ruck also confirmed that Michael McGlade and Nathan Powell were looking fit while the elusive Brody Ogle and tall target Stephen Beal would make more regular league appearances. As many as eight reserves players from last year’s grand final could feature in the league team for round one.
