The Great Southern Centre for Outdoor Excellence has taken out the title of WA’s outstanding outdoor organisation for 2020.

The WA Outdoor Recreation Sector Awards recognise high-achieving providers and individuals in the outdoor sector.

GSCORE, a not-for-profit regional peak body, was established in 2017 and aims to grow outdoor recreation in the region.

Executive director Lenore Lyons said she hoped the award would bring more attention to the sector.

“It’s testament to everyone’s enthusiasm and dedication to improving access to trails and outdoor activities which helped us win this award,” Dr Lyons said.

“We look forward to another excellent year working with our community partners to encourage more Western Australians to get active outdoors.

“Bushwalking, mountain biking, paddling and horse riding are amongst a range of activities that improve our mental and physical health.

“We want to see more Great Southern residents and visitors enjoying our region’s trails and national parks.”
