Grom making more waves

Denmark youngster Isi Campbell again mixed it with the best young surfers in WA, reaching finals in two different age groups at the opening event of the WA Junior Surfing Titles held at Surfers Point, Margaret River at the weekend.
Campbell, pictured, made the finals in the under-14 grom girls’ and under-16 cadet girls’ categories after an impressive couple of days in the waves.
In the under-14 division Campbell was an opening heat winner as she returned a combined score of 13.17 and followed that up with a second to Kaleisha Launders in the semifinals.

Campbell scored 10.44, just behind Launders’ score of 10.50 to book her place in the four-person final.
The Denmark grommet scored an impressive 16.7 out of a possible score of 20 in the final to defeat Launders (14), Ruby Berry (12.43) and Lela Fraser (4.4).
Campbell scored on seven waves with her best two scoring waves coming last as she registered an 8.43 and 8.27 to take out the under-14 grom girls’ final.

The rising star continued her stunning form in the under-16 cadet girls’ category winning her first heat finishing on a score of 8.66 to advance to the four-person final.
In the final Campbell claimed third place with a score of 8.53, bettered by Berry (9.43) and Willow Hardy (9.40).
The second round of the WA Junior Surfing Titles will be held at Denmark in May.
