A 4.3m great white shark and three big tiger sharks were caught and released by fisheries officers last week after a whale carcass washed up at Nanarup Beach.

The carcass was first reported about 2.30pm on Thursday and attracted multiple sharks before it made landfall on Saturday.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development took the opportunity to conduct white shark tagging operations while Nanarup Beach was closed.

Officers tagged and released this 4.3m great white about 1km offshore on Friday.

On Saturday, they caught and released three tiger sharks, measuring 4.4m, 4.1m and 3.3m.

The City of Albany reopened Nanarup Beach on Tuesday after the whale carcass was washed out to sea during Sunday night’s storm.

However the carcass washed ashore again yesterday near the Taylor Inlet.
