One of the Great Southern Science Council’s flagship events, the Science Rocks Career Expo, will be going online this year.

GSSC volunteers, science professionals and local videographers were brought together to make a downloadable resource pack for school students to showcase career paths in science, technology, engineering, maths and innovation.

Curtin University academic and GSSC chair Katy Evans said it was important for local students to be aware that careers in the field were not just in the city.

“The quality and diversity of STEMI professionals in the Great Southern is really remarkable,” she said.

“It’s important for students in the region to realise that STEMI careers are all around them, and not just in metropolitan campuses.”

An interactive live stream will launch of the 2020 installation of the expo, hosted by the University of WA’s Great Southern marine research facility on Monday.

A panel of three local science professionals will field questions from students, educators and the community during the launch.
