Gnowangerup come from behind to snatch thrilling win over Lake Grace-Pingrup in round four of OFA season

Gnowangerup have pulled off a terrific comeback to defeat Lake Grace-Pingrup in a thrilling round four contest in the Ongerup Football League on Saturday. The Bulldogs failed to register a score for the entire first quarter but a gutsy eight-goal second half fired the visitors to an unlikely 29-point victory over the Bombers in Lake Grace. After a dominant first quarter from the Bombers, both sides struggled to gain an advantage in the second term as the Bulldogs continued their wayward kicking on goal, going into the break 16 points down. The Bulldogs refused to give up, however, gaining more traction the longer the contest went on. They fired home three majors to the Bombers’ one in the third term, with scores all square heading into the final quarter. The Bombers were left shell-shocked as the visitors stacked on the pressure in the last term, kicking five unanswered goals to run out 10.15 (75) to 7.4 (46) winners to remain unbeaten. Ethan Caldwell, Scott Anderson and Brandon Wise were all standouts for the winning side, while James Dewar (five goals) and last week’s 17-goal hero Lewis Davis (three goals) were the main targets in attack for the visitors. Luke Bairstow, Corey Ward and Darcy Townsend were the most impressive for the Bombers throughout the afternoon, while Karl Fleay booted six goals in a dominant display for the home side. In the other league fixture, Boxwood Hill thrashed Jerramungup by 130 points at Boxwood to notch their first win of the season. Boxwood players Hayden Richter, George Bungey and Arran Jones were all dominant in the trouncing. Jack Davis was the key up forward for the winners, booting eight goals, while Richter also contributed three.
