German supermarket chain Aldi is officially coming to the Great Southern with the retail giant set to confirm today it will open a store in the Albany Plaza in February next year.

Coinciding with its fifth anniversary in WA, the store ended months of speculation by confirming that Albany would be included in its next regional expansion.

Aldi operates 47 stores across WA and plans to open another six stores in the next two years.

Property investor Charter Hall will open the store in the Albany Plaza, as well as complete further upgrades at the Plaza over the next year to create space for three other new retailers.

“ALDI is a great addition to the current offering. As a much-loved brand and with the closest ALDI being nearly four hours away, we know the extended community will be eagerly awaiting the opening,” Charter Hall retail chief executive Greg Chubb said.

“We are looking forward to welcoming customers into the new store early next year.’

Aldi WA managing director Caroline MacPhail said she was proud of Aldi’s contribution to WA.

“We have come a long way since opening our first few stores back in 2016 and we are excited to continue our expansion into new locations such as Albany, providing access to high-quality groceries at incredibly low prices for more Western Australians,” she said.
