Gardener finds giant zucchini surprise

Jessica CuthbertAlbany Advertiser

Albany resident Bede Harold got the surprise of his life when he discovered an 85cm zucchini hidden in his vegie patch.

The keen gardener said he had been growing his own vegetables for more than 30 years, including pumpkins, cauliflowers and zucchini. “Finding the monster zucchini was such a great surprise, I have never grown one that big before,” he said.

“It was hidden under big leaves, so when I originally went to twist it off, I realised how big and heavy it was and that I needed two hands.”

The grower said he did not use fertiliser but bred worms and used the worm castings to grow his vegetables.

Mr Harold said the big zucchini did not get any special treatments or fertilisers and was a complete surprise.

The large zucchini is still sitting in Mr Harold’s shed, with no special recipe in mind.
