Four Great Southern products help Claremont dismantle South Fremantle to progress straight through to decider
Claremont are the first team to qualify for the 2020 WAFL league grand final after dismantling minor premiers South Fremantle in their second semifinal clash by 47 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday.
The Tigers featured four Great Southern players and advanced straight through to next weekend’s decider.
North Albany junior Declan Mountford amassed 15 tackles to go with 22 disposals and seven inside-50s in a best-on-ground performance.
Royals and Albany product Tyron Smallwood also impressed in the win, collecting 17 touches, five tackles, three marks and kicking a goal.
Royals and Jerramungup junior Tom Baldwin (12 possessions and three marks) and Borden tall Anthony Davis (eight disposals and three tackles) were also a part of the victory.
Kojonup and Albany product Travis Abbott kicked 1.1 from six disposals and three marks for the Bulldogs senior team in the loss.
The Tigers will face the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final between West Perth and the Bulldogs.
A stellar performance from Denmark-Walpole ruckman Kalin Lane against Subiaco guided Claremont colts straight through to the grand final.
Lane was the dominant big man on the ground in their second semifinal to be named among the Tigers’ best.
In the 15-point win, Lane had a game-high 39 hit-outs to go with 14 possessions, three tackles and three inside 50s.
Albany tall Kieran Gowdie played a strong support role for Lane with 21 hit-outs and a goal from seven disposals.
Hard-running North Albany junior Alex Pearce continued his strong season with 22 touches, five marks and four tackles while Railways defender Jacob Blight grabbed five marks from 19 possessions and four inside-50s.
Claremont reserves are through to this weekend’s preliminary final against Subiaco after a 17-point first semifinal win over South Fremantle.
North Albany forward Corey Hitchcock kicked three goals and was named in the best players while Railways product Jye Clark also booted a goal in the victory.
